VAIS Kicks-Off Fire Prevention Month with Storytime

Thank you to everyone who attended our Fire Prevention Month Kick-Off Storytime this past Saturday at Verona Public Library. Over 70 members of the community enjoyed firefighter and fire safety-themed books, songs, and language practice in English, Mandarin Chinese, and American Sign Language. The event was led by VAIS K-1 Mandarin Chinese Teacher Lumei Huang and VAIS Librarian Tiffani Roltgen, as well as VAIS fourth graders Stella Roltgen and Dakota Van Rossum. Despite responding to an emergency call shortly before the event began, Verona Fire Department raced to the rescue and appeared just in time to give fire truck tours and answer questions following storytime. Participants left with a take-home craft containing supplies and directions for creating their very own dalmatian fire dog craft including several bones for reviewing important fire safety rules such as knowing two ways out of every room, making and practicing a family fire escape plan, and never going back into a burning building to get anything including pets.
