  • Interested in becoming a school board member?  

    Candidates who are interested in becoming members of the Board of Education for Verona Area School District can visit the Verona City Clerk's website for information.  The seven-member Verona Area Board of Education is made up of four members who may live in the district at large and three members who must reside in specific geographic portions within the district. The Portion 1 member must live in the part of the district outside of the cities of Verona and Fitchburg. The Portion 2 member must live in Fitchburg, and the Portion 3 member must live in Verona. Each term is three years long. In a three-year cycle, one at-large member and one portion member is elected each year for two years while during the third year, two at-large members and one portion member are elected.

    Verona Area School District Seeks Applicants for Vacant At-Large Board of Education Seat - Submit Resume and Letter of Intent by 11/2/22 5:00 PM

    The Verona Area School District (VASD) Board of Education is seeking applicants for the recently vacated at-large board seat. Any qualified elector residing within the VASD boundaries is eligible to apply.

    Interested individuals must submit a short resume along with a letter of intent that explains (a) the person’s interest in being appointed and (b) how the person would support the district’s mission that “Each student will acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to achieve their personal goals, thrive in a diverse global society, and lead a healthy, self-fulfilling life.” 

    Letters should be submitted via email to Board of Education President Meredith Stier Christensen at christem@verona.k12.wi.us and Board of Education Vice President Jennifer Murphy at murphyj@verona.k12.wi.us. The deadline to submit letters of intent is November 2, 2022, at 5:00 PM. Any materials an interested applicant submits may be made available to the public and/or the press.

    Applicants should reserve the evening of November 14 for in-person interviews with the Board of Education. The exact schedule and timeline, along with any additional information regarding the interview process, will be communicated to all applicants on or before November 7th. The final timeline and process will be based on the number of applicants and structured to ensure that the board can engage in a thorough, thoughtful, and efficient appointment process. 

    The appointee to the board will fill this seat until a successor is elected in spring 2023. The appointee to this seat is strongly encouraged to run as a candidate in the spring 2023 election.
