- Verona Area School District
- Bilingual Programs & Instructional Equity
-
In recognition of the rich cultural and linguistic diversity of our district, VASD is proud to offer programming to prepare bilingual and bi-literate students to achieve high levels of success academically, linguistically, and socially. At the elementary and middle school levels, families can choose:
- The Spanish Two-Way Immersion program at Glacier Edge, and Sugar Creek Elementary and Badger Ridge Middle School.
- Chinese Immersion at Verona Area International School
- "English as a Second Language" instruction at ALL sites
Because bilingualism, biliteracy, and sociocultural competency are characteristics of career- and college readiness, bilingual offerings at the secondary level include Spanish Language Arts classes and sheltered English instruction across the content areas.
VASD is currently working to develop pathways for students to graduate with the Wisconsin Seal of Biliteracy. -
The Department of Instructional Equity is dedicated to carrying out our district mission of EVERY student being successful by:
- Acting to eliminate gaps and barriers between our vision and the policies, practices, and structures that may perpetuate systemic inequities.
- Seeking to remove the predictability of success and failure that currently correlates with any social or cultural factor.
- Ensuring all learners have access to rigorous content at or above grade level.
- Creating sustainable partnerships in supporting academic achievement for all learners.
- Developing knowledge, attitudes, skills, and practices to create learning environments and opportunities that expect and support achievement for all learners.
