Open Enrollment

The regular open enrollment application is open from the first Monday in February until the last weekday of April.

If you missed the Open enrollment deadline, you could be eligible to apply via the Alternate Open Enrollment time period.  Alternate open enrollment applications must be submitted during the school year in which the pupil wants to begin attending school in the nonresident school district.  For more information, please read Applying for Open Enrollment Using the Alternative Application Procedure.  To apply, visit Public School Open Enrollment - Alternative Open Enrollment Application.

The non-resident school district (VASD) must mail notifications to parents in writing no later than June 7, 2024.

 Yes and no.  Verona Area School District currently requires all open enrollment students to re-apply after 5^th grade for entry into middle school.  If you are entering any other grade, you do not need to re-apply.

You can list your preference on the open enrollment application.  We take those into consideration; however, we place your student where space is available.

Yes. In January 2024, the School Board will determine available spaces by grade level for non-special and special education open enrollment applications for the 2024-25 school year. The district currently has a very high resident student population.

You must apply for open enrollment between February 5 and April 30, 2024.  However, there is no guarantee.

No, transportation is the responsibility of the parent/guardian. However, low-income families may apply for reimbursement of a portion of their transportation costs through the Department of Public Instruction.  To learn more visit DPI Open Enrollment Transportation and Transportation Reimbursement (external link).

A pupil enrolled in a public school in the high school grades may attend public school in a nonresident school district for the purpose of taking a course offered by the nonresident school district. To apply, visit Part-time Open Enrollment (external link).

If a pupil has attained senior status while a resident of a school district, the pupil may complete the senior year in that school district, even if the pupil is no longer a resident of that district.

Each school board determines whether a pupil has attained senior status. Where there is no policy, many school boards consider the pupil to have attained senior status upon completion of the junior year.

Once a pupil has attained senior status, the pupil may continue to attend the school district until the pupil graduates or until the end of the school term in which the pupil turns 21.

VASD Senior Rule Policy 420-Rule(1) 

Any senior student who attains senior status while a resident of the District and then moves out of the District is eligible to complete his/her senior year in the District without payment of tuition. In this situation, the student simply must inform the school office of their move out of the District and their intent to continue their senior year in the District.
