Dear Verona Area School District Summer School and VASD Sponsored Camp Families and Staff,
As we navigate Summer School and VASD-sponsored camps, we are mindful of the Extreme Heat Warning from noon on Monday, June 29, through the evening of Tuesday, June 30 and the high temperatures this season brings. Ensuring the safety and well-being of our students is our top priority, and we want to inform you of the heat-related precautions we take:
- Hydration: We encourage all students to bring filled reusable water bottles, if possible. We have multiple water stations around the school for easy access, and staff will remind students to stay hydrated throughout the day.
- Air Conditioning: All classrooms and common areas are equipped with air conditioning to maintain a comfortable indoor environment.
- Outdoor Activities: During peak heat times, we may shift recess (elementary only) and outdoor activities indoors. Our general practices for outdoor activities include monitoring students for heat-related stress, hydration breaks, utilizing shaded areas to minimize heat exposure, and taking whole-class breaks inside if needed.
- Dress: We recommend that students wear light, breathable clothing. Please ensure your child applies sunscreen before coming to school.
We do have plans for indoor recess in the event that temperatures become too high.
Your participation in helping your child understand the importance of these precautions is greatly appreciated. Together, we can ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all our students.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the school office.
Thank you for your attention and support.
Best regards,
