Introduction
-
The Verona Area School District is partnering with Edgenuity (K-8) and Educere (9-12), nationally-known providers of on-line learning, to provide fully virtual instruction to our K-12 virtual learners. Edgenuity and Educere courses feature rigorous, standards-based instruction; interactive tools that support learning; and engaging multimedia and real-world applications to help students build essential skills and content knowledge. This virtual learning opportunity is asynchronous, self-paced, and learner-driven.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
Is virtual learning this year similar to the way it was during the 2020-21 school year?
The K-8 virtual learning option is very different from the concurrent learning platform used during the 2020-21 school year and the asynchronous learning model used during the school closures in the spring of 2020. We are partnering with Edgenuity, an online program that is designed for fully virtual learning. This platform uses grade-level, standards-aligned curriculum and modules to provide asynchronous instruction for students. While there may be live check-ins with a teacher at times, students do their learning independently at home, with support from parents/guardians.
-
How do students engage with virtual content?
Students can participate in virtual learning in the Edgenuity platform on their district-issued iPad or personal device at home. Students independently work through assignments at a pace designed to align with the VASD school calendar. The K-5 Edgenuity virtual curriculum is also accompanied by a student workbook, for which there is no cost to you.
-
If my child starts or stops attending virtual school mid-year, will they be behind?
Edgenuity is organized by semester, meaning that students will complete first semester virtual courses at the end of the VASD first semester and new virtual courses will begin for the beginning of the VASD second semester. As such, grading also occurs by semester.
-
How do I know how my student is progressing?
-
How does my student stay connected with their attendance area school?
Your child(ren) will remain in your VASD attendance school’s database. As such, you will continue to receive all school communications. You may find this helpful to keep you aware of updates from school and you may want to attend evening events or activities with your family. In addition, Social-Emotional Learning will be supplemented by the Verona Area School District. Virtual learners will have a synchronous weekly check-in with a VASD counselor. Your attendance area site(s) will also be reaching out with ways for virtual learners to stay connected to their school community.
