How can I use the tools in an iPad to help my student at home?
In addition, there are other things you can do to your child's iPad settings to support you at home.
- Introduction to Screen Time on the iPad - With Screen Time, you can access real-time reports about how much time you spend on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, and set limits for what you want to manage. Please visit the following link for more detail.
- Parental controls in Screen Time - With Content & Privacy Restrictions in Screen Time, you can block or limit specific apps and features on your child's device. And restrict the settings on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch for explicit content, purchases and downloads, and privacy. Please visit the following links for more detail https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201304 and https://www.commonsensemedia.org/blog/how-to-use-apples-screen-time-feature
- Prevent additional web content - iOS can automatically filter website content to limit access to adult content in Safari and apps on your device. You can also add specific websites to an approved or blocked list, or you can limit access to only approved websites. Please visit the following link for more detail.
- Passcodes - Please see this link about how to set and remove passcodes on the iPad.
- Siri - Please see this link for how to turn on Siri. It is a great tool for reminders on the iPad.
- iPad Accessibility Features - Please see this link on the many types of features the iPad has to support your student's learning.

Are the iPads filtered? How can I see what my student is doing? What about apps?
Our iPads use Securly, which filters internet searches done by your student. You have the ability to see what your child is searching by logging in online or downloading the app. You should use the email address you have in PowerSchool to log in.
The apps students have access to are in an app called JAMF Student. These apps are only those requested by teachers for their classes. Students do not have access to the traditional App Store on their district-owned iPad.

What is a learning management system and what does VASD use?
A learning management system helps teachers to deploy all of the necessary information for their class online in one place. This could include assignments, quizzes, discussion boards, calendars, and resources.
At the elementary level, we use a modified learning management system called Seesaw. If you need help with signing into Seesaw, there is a document for Clever sign-in and a document for web login. Parents can access Seesaw to view their student's work. Please contact your student's teacher for how you can access this. Here are some other resources to help with some questions you may have:

I hear a lot about Clever. What is it?
Clever is VASD's single sign on system. This allows students to click a button and log into an app without having to remember their password. Since Clever only works with certain apps, a teacher will instruct students when they can use it to sign in.

We keep running into issues on the iPad, and it won't operate correctly. What are some things we can try to fix it?
Every technology device experiences glitches and issues at various times. We have put together the top eight things you can try that will often solve these issues.
-
My student's iPad will not connect with our home internet. How can I fix this?
First, make sure that you have the correct password for your home internet. If you know that you are entering the correct password, we have found that families that have Charter/Spectrum internet service need to complete an extra step. Please see this document to walk you through that process.
-
Does my student have a district Google account?
Yes, every student has a district-owned Google account. Their email address (used to sign into Google) is their ID number followed by @verona.k12.wi.us (i.e. #####@verona.k12.wi.us). Their password is the same network password emailed home and used to sign into the iPad.

We just received a new iPad and need to set it up. What is the step-by-step process?
Please use this document to walk you through your student's iPad setup. You will need the student's district username and password. You should have received an email with this information. If you have misplaced this or did not receive it, please contact us at 845-4346.
