Mr. Todd Brunner

Welcome from the Principal

On behalf of our entire staff and student body, I want to welcome you to Sugar Creek Elementary.  Our school has a long tradition in the Verona community for excellence in education and for a welcoming environment.  We have a highly trained teaching staff with little turn over and a sincere commitment to doing what's right for children.  It is a great place to learn and work!  If, after reading the web site, you should have any questions please contact us (608-845-4100.)  As a highly successful school district just minutes from downtown Madison, Verona is one of the fastest growing communities in Wisconsin.  Thus, we are constantly welcoming new families to our school.

I hold a Master of Science (Middle School Education) and four teaching licenses from UW-Platteville, and also an undergraduate degree with majors in International Relations (American Foreign Policy with a Russian emphasis) and Political Science from UW-Madison.  While a teacher I pursued and received Wisconsin administrative licensure (Pre K-12) from UW-Madison.

In 2012 I was the only school principal in Wisconsin to participate in and successfully pass the Wisconsin Master Educator Assessment Process, through the Department of Public Instruction, receiving the designation of a Wisconsin Master Educator.

I am a former Peace Corps teacher in Poland and have also taught middle school and high school in Colby, Wisconsin and Blanchardville, Wisconsin.  I taught middle school in Verona for eight years, then served two years as a principal intern at Sugar Creek Elementary School.  I have been principal of Sugar Creek since 2006, and each day am proud to work with fabulous colleagues in the Verona Area School District.

Ms. Laura Marquardt

Welcome from our Dean of Students

Welcome to Sugar Creek! I am proud to serve as the Dean of Students.  I have worked at Sugar Creek since 2007.  For 13 years I was a Kindergarten Classroom Teacher in both the Monolingual and Two Way Immersion Programs.  I began my new role in the fall of 2020.  I hold my Master of Science in Elementary Education and am currently working towards obtaining my Wisconsin Administrative License.

My goal is to help ensure that every child feels valued, supported, and heard throughout their time here at Sugar Creek.  To make this successful I work alongside our Principal, Classroom Teachers, and Student Services Team developing our Positive Behavior Intervention and Support Systems, creating schedules for students and staff throughout the building, and spending as much time as possible with students so that I can build positive relationships and understand their needs in and out of the classroom.

If there is anything I can do to help support your child or family, please feel free to reach out.

Laura Marquardt
