Public Records Request

School Districts Requesting Transfer of Pupil Records

If you are a school district seeking transfer records for a recently enrolled student, please fax or email your request to the last Verona Area School District school the student attended.  For a list of our schools, click on "Schools" on the upper part of the screen.  

Open Record Requests

In accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and Wisconsin Statutes (sec. 19.31), the Verona Area School District (VASD) will process, produce and respond to public records requests during its operational hours of 7:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, (excluding District and legal holidays set forth on the current VASD calendar). If records are too large or complex to send via email, there will be a charge for copy reproduction of $0.15 per page. You will be contacted with a cost before sending the information, otherwise, responses are typically sent via email. Upon receipt of your request, you will be contacted with an estimate of time when the request may be completed.

For any and all public records requests for transmission of a record, the District will only transmit the record when the custodian receives payment for all actual, direct, and necessary costs associated with the record transmission (e.g., transcription, locating, finding, or similar tasks (only if it is greater than $50), photography/photographic reproduction) and for all other fees lawfully allowed, unless the District waives any or all of the associated costs or fees. Costs will be calculated based on the hourly pay rate of the lowest paid employee able to produce the record. Upon receipt of payment, transmission will occur as soon as practicable and without delay.

The District may adopt additional protocols and procedures to govern the processing of public records requests, including the copying, transmission, and inspection of its records to prevent unnecessary interference with District operations.

In compliance with Wisconsin statutes sec. 19.35(4)(a), public records requests will be filled or denied as soon as practicable and without delay.
