Private or Parochial Schools & Special Education
Verona Area School District (VASD) has the responsibility for implementing the IDEA requirements for parentally-placed private school students with disabilities in grades 4K through grade 12 who attend state-recognized private or parochial (PP) (elementary & secondary) schools within VASD boundaries, regardless of their district of residency. At this time, Hickory Hill Academy Bright Child Learning Center, and Impact Christian Academy are the only private schools within VASD boundaries. If you are a Verona Area School District resident, and your child is currently attending a state-recognized private or parochial school located within the boundaries of a different district, the district where the private or parochial school is located is responsible for these services.
Students attending private/parochial schools in VASD boundaries:
For students who meet eligibility for an IEP, VASD is responsible for offering 3-year reevaluations and determining if any services will be offered to the private school via a Service Plan.
If the services the student received via their IEP are within the array of services offered at private schools, the parent is notified and a service plan can be developed to outline the services.
