Family and community engagement

The Department of Engagement and Extended Learning focuses on strengthening the day-to-day experiences of students, families, staff, and community partners across the Verona Area School District. The department leads work that builds meaningful connections, expands learning opportunities beyond traditional settings, and supports students in staying engaged, connected, and on track throughout their educational journey. We collaborate with schools and district leaders to advance the district’s Strategic Framework and elevate the work of school-based Continuous Improvement Plans, with a shared focus on student agency, belonging, wellness, and community collaboration.

A core responsibility of the department is the development and coordination of Extended Learning Pathways, including Foundations programs and Summer School, which provide students with additional time, flexible options, and targeted support to grow academically, socially, and emotionally. This work is strengthened by the Family, Staff, and Community Liaison, who serves as a bridge between schools, families, staff, and community partners by supporting two-way communication, coordinating engagement opportunities, and helping reduce barriers to participation. Together, the department works to create inclusive pathways, strong relationships, and meaningful partnerships that support student success, both inside and beyond the classroom.

What We Do

  • Support the Strategic Framework by partnering with schools and district leaders to elevate and align work within school-based Continuous Improvement Plans.
  • Develop and coordinate Extended Learning Pathways, including Foundations programs and Summer School, to provide flexible, supportive learning opportunities for students.
  • Strengthen family, staff, and community engagement through two-way communication, outreach, and inclusive opportunities for participation.
  • Reduce barriers to access and participation by connecting families and students to resources, supports, and community partners.
  • Amplify student, family, and staff voice to inform decision-making and improve experiences across the district.
  • Build partnerships beyond the classroom that support student learning, belonging, and long-term success.
