Two-Way Spanish Immersion

The Verona Area School District’s Two-Way Immersion (TWI) program is a dual language program in which Spanish and English are used for instruction to develop language proficiency in both languages.

Developed yearly since it started at the Kindergarten level in 2013, on 2024, the TWI program had reached 10th grade at VAHS. In elementary school, TWI students spend half their day with a teacher who teaches in Spanish and the other half with a teacher who teaches in English. They learn literacy in both languages, math primarily in English with numeracy and concept practice in Spanish, and science and social studies primarily in Spanish with concepts integrated into literacy in both languages. Students may continue learning in Spanish in middle and high school by taking two courses in Spanish and the rest of their courses in English.
