The Verona Area School District (VASD) proudly celebrates the cultural and linguistic diversity that enriches our community. With students who speak 52 different languages other than English at home, our district is deeply committed to fostering bilingualism, biliteracy, and cross-cultural understanding. Through our multilingual programs, students develop the skills to communicate effectively across languages and cultures—preparing them to thrive academically, linguistically, and socially in an increasingly global society.
Our programs reflect the district’s mission to develop multilingual learners who acquire the knowledge and skills to achieve their personal goals, thrive in a diverse global society, and lead a healthy, self-fulfilling life. Nearly 70% of VASD students take at least one world language course before graduation, and we are proud to have one of the highest world language enrollment rates in Wisconsin among districts of similar size.
VASD is also the only district in Wisconsin of its size to offer the Seal of Biliteracy, an award recognizing high school seniors who demonstrate advanced proficiency in two or more languages and cultural competence. In 2024–25, 42 students earned the Seal of Biliteracy, representing proficiency in languages such as Spanish, Mandarin, American Sign Language, and Tagalog.
Through programs such as Two-Way Immersion, English as a Second Language, Heritage Spanish, and World Languages, we honor the multilingual gifts our students bring and provide meaningful opportunities for all learners to acquire additional languages. Together, we are building a community where every language is valued and every student’s voice is heard.
