Evaluations and Referrals for Special Education

Individuals who are aware of any person (age 3-21) with physical, mental, emotional or learning needs are encouraged to notify any member of the Student Services Staff.  If you think your child has a disability, please contact the School Psychologist at your child's school.

For children ages 3-5 please contact Maggie Pfeil at (608) 845-4817 or pfeilm@verona.k12.wi.us or complete the Early Childhood Request For Assistance form.

VASD works with Birth-3, community medical personnel, day cares, preschools and families to identify students who may have a disability requiring special education.

Screening is available upon request.  This information is used to provide the parent with information of their child's current development and to provide suggestions for follow-up activities.  Parents can also learn about community services available to them.

When there is belief that a child is a child with a disability, they refer the child for an evaluation by a school district Individualized Education Program (IEP) team.  Parents are participants on this team.

If you need additional information or have any questions, please contact Emmett Durtschi, Director of Student Services, at (608) 845-4314 or durtsche@verona.k12.wi.us.
