Verona Area High School is pleased to present a production of James McLure's "Wild Oats," a delightfully enthusiastic production chock-full of Shakespearean quotes and "naughty" innuendos. This old fashioned comedy-melodrama, inspired by Shakespeare, is directed by Steven J. Nibbe and produced by Lauri Halminiak.

"Wild Oats" will run from Thursday, March 5th through Saturday, March 7th at the Verona Area Performing Arts Center, 300 Richard Street, Verona WI. This show is not intended for children under the age of 14.

Tickets can be purchased online at https://vahs.vbotickets.com/events to get the best seats OR at the door for $12.00 per adult and $10.00 for students and seniors (processing fees charged either way).

About the show...
Dubbed "a romance of the Old West," Wild Oats is the hilarious story of aimless thespian Jack Rover (Dominic Deyes), who falls in love with the strong-willed Kate Thunder (Avery Goth) and finds his long-lost family in the desert town of Muleshoe. Jack’s mother Amelia Delores Morales (Erin Zenk) is a poor tenant of a crooked landlord Ike Gammon (Jakob Oehler).

At the Last Chance Saloon, the bartender is pouring, the cowboys are shootin' and the sleazy preacher from the Church of Suffering and Denial, Ephraim Smooth (played by Alex Thompson), comes to convert everyone's souls -- and not for the better. Col. Croftus Thunder (Seamus Angell ) is leading the charge with his trusted Irish-Indian scout Crow (Anna Larson) who reports that Thunder’s son Harry (Caylee Lawrence), has been expelled from West point and is disgracing the family and Harry's goofy pal, Muz (Abby Elson).

The behind-the-scenes crew has done its homework to ensure the cast captures the period's spirit. Student Stage manager Parker Mindermann is also running the sound board and intends to take his experience with him to UW Milwaukee’s Theater Production program. The costumes, designed by Leslie Frank, enhance this Wild West Show greatly. Nibbe, who is also the Technical Director and set designer, is taking a unique approach with this show’s western set.

"Wild Oats" is a challenging play for any high school to produce. Nibbe shared, "We plan to really capture the fun and the excitement of the turn of the century American West. We'll have gunfights, a saloon and damsels in distress.

VAHS is rising to this challenge, and is hoping to wow the audience with its "wild" humor. Don’t miss the show!
