Educational Objectives

Objective #1 – Offer an integrated curriculum that provides an environmental context for learning and helps students acquire skills in various academic disciplines (reading, language arts, math, science, and social studies) in an interconnected way. Traditional models of education compartmentalize academic subjects, and students can have difficulty transferring knowledge from one instructional context to another. The Charter School’s environmentally integrated curriculum seeks to overcome this challenge by providing a consistent and relevant context for all instruction. Students will be encouraged to use a breadth of knowledge and skills that cross academic disciplines as they try to better understand problems in the natural world.

Objective #2 – Emphasize the scientific method through the environmental model of instruction to help students acquire exceptional skills in the natural sciences. The basics of the scientific method will be introduced at the earliest grade levels, and an understanding of what the scientific method is and how to skillfully employ it will be built upon from one grade level to the next.

Objective #3 – Help students become informed and involved citizens who are not only scientifically and socially
