Eligibility Requirements
WRS participating employee prior to July 1, 2011:
To qualify for participation in the WRS, employees covered under the WRS prior to
July 1, 2011, must meet both of the following eligibility criteria:
1)
Employee is expected to work at least one/third of what is considered full-time
employment, as defined:
a) 440 hours for teachers and school district educational support personnel
and
2)
Employee is expected to be employed for at least one year (365 consecutive days,
366 in a leap year) from employee's date of hire.
WRS participating employee on or after July 1, 2011
1)
Employee is expected to work at least two/thirds of what is considered full-time
employment, as defined:
a) 880 hours for teachers and school district educational support personnel
and
2)
Employee is expected to be employed for at least one year (365 consecutive days,
366 in a leap year) from employee's date of hire.
Benefit Information
2019 Contribution Rates - 13.1% of gross wages
Consisting of:
a) 6.55% Verona Area School District Contribution
b) 6.55% Employee Contribution
2018 Contribution Rates - 13.4% of gross wages
Consisting of:
a) 6.7% Verona Area School District Contribution
b) 6.7% Employee Contribution
2017 Contribution Rates - 13.6% of gross wages
Consisting of:
a) 6.8% Verona Area School District Contribution
b) 6.8% Employee Contribution
Employee contribution is "pre-tax" meaning employee's deduction reduces their taxable income while employed. Once the employee receives an annuity, the funds will be taxable. Current law prohibits employees from opting out of enrollment unless receiving an annuity or a recently processed separation benefit.
