Country View Elementary is holding a week-long fundraiser to raise $$ for Red Cross efforts in earthquake recovery. Students are paying for the privilege to wear a hat all week. Calling it “Hats for Help,” 5th graders came up with idea, visiting each classroom to share with fellow students that they can wear a hat, but have to pay a donation to do so--penny Monday, nickel Tuesday, dime Wednesday, quarter Thursday and dollar Friday.

Anyone can donate more on top of that if desired as students reach out to their families. If you'd like to donate towards the efforts, please contact the school office to drop off or mail in your donation at 608-845-4800.

Interestingly, Christine Frei, a Country View 2nd Grade Teacher of 17 years, set the goal for her FIRST CLIMB EVER on Mount Everest with her goal to simply reach basecamp (at 17,600 feet) in 11 days. Ms. Frei literally was on her plane ride back to the states when devastation hit the country, serving as one of the last few people to see the country at its beauty beforehand.

Hear her story at the Verona Library on Thursday, July 9, time yet to be determined, but watch the library website for a calendar listing.
