The Verona Area School District is proud to offer the Two-Way
Immersion (TWI) program as an option for children entering kindergarten. As a part of our district’s mission, “EVERY
student MUST be successful”, we recognize and value
bilingualism, biliteracy, and cultural identity as assets to nurture and
develop.
Two-Way Immersion (TWI) is a model of bilingual education in
which children spend half of their school day learning academic content in
Spanish and the other half in English to develop academic skills, language
proficiency in both languages, and cross-cultural competence. The linguistic
make-up of TWI classrooms consists of approximately 50% students from
Spanish-speaking homes and 50% students from English-speaking homes (including
homes in which a language other than Spanish is spoken).
Families from all attendance areas in the district may
request placement in the TWI program. Students who live in the Glacier Edge and
Stoner Prairie school attendance areas have preferential placement in the TWI
program at Glacier Edge while students who live in the Country View and Sugar
Creek school attendance areas have preferential placement in the TWI program at
Sugar Creek. VASD provides transportation to students in the TWI program per
Board policy.
Please feel free to contact us with any questions. We look
forward to meeting you and accompanying you on your child’s journey to becoming
bilingual.
Sincerely,
