"Hour of Code" Teaches Students Critical Computer Skills for Future Industry Careers

During Computer Science Education Week, more than 1,000 students in the Verona Area School District and hundreds of thousands in schools all around world will take part in the “Hour of Code” event. The event, organized by the nonprofit Code.org and over 100 others, is an event to teach students critical computer skills for 21st century success. Computers are everywhere, but fewer schools teach computer science--this year the high school students joined the elementary students to help teach the fun!
The high school, Glacier Edge Elementary, Stoner Prairie Elementary, and Sugar Creek Elementary have organized events, while most all other schools are participating in some capacity. Excitingly, this year more than 30 high school students will be mentoring the younger students as they learn basic computer science.
